Ulla Santti
MSC (ECON), PHD STUDENT
Bio
Ulla Santti is working in international RDI operations in the field of Bio and Circular Economy. Main tasks include international RDI project design, network building and project management in her field of expertise in business development. She currently operates as project manager in European Regional Development Funded project Green Data Future Solutions and Savonia’s representative in Cross Border Collaboration Funded project: Against Waste: Activate and Research and Education (AWARE) and also contributes European Regional Development Funded projects: Join-Bioerko, Digital & Circular Fashion House and EU Horizon2020 project HOOP.
Interest areas & research
Interest in Business Management, Company culture research & SME Development connected to sustainable technologies. Currently preparing doctoral thesis around business models and organizational culture development of SMEs. Looking for AWARE project for focus on common ground building, effects of shared culture and how do these concept connect to each other on waste management sector. During her career she has worked in international field as export director, marketing manager and hr-manager before the university career. During next years she is aiming at completing her doctoral thesis in the field of sustainable technology.
Jari Porras

Bio
Research on parallel and distributed computing, wireless and mobile systems and services as well as sustainable ICT.
Recent years focus on human and sustainability aspects of software engineering and wants to emphasize the impacts of various solutions on sustainable development.
Interest areas & research
Coordinator and partner in many existing international projects like Prophet – Nordic Master on Sustainable ICT Solutions of Tomorrow, SustHack – Synchronizing sustainable development actions between Finland and Malaysia – the Hackathon approach and DOIT – Entrepreneurial skills for young social innovators in an open digital world.
In addition actively working in many international project proposals.
Timo Kärri

Bio
Professor of Cost management (under Industrial Engineering and Management) at the School of Engineering Science.
Interest areas & research
“Research topics include industrial asset management, capital investments and working capital management, and he has specialized life-cycle costing and cost modelling.
Kärri acted responsible manager in many industrial research projects, e.g. Maintenance Services Management (MaiSeMa) and Service Solutions for Fleet Management (DIMECC S4Fleet)”
Ari Happonen

Research focus in Information Systems (e.g. Business Informatics and real use cases of ICT in business), Software Engineering & software automation and Information Science.
Interest areas & research
“All areas of digitalization, digital transformation of 1) business, 2) social and 3) ecosystem level aspects, automatization (both in digital/software and physical e.g. robotization, smarter society trough ICT.
Specially in AWARE, the role of technology to enhance our fight against waste, possibilities to use e.g. gamification to make people more interested to take more active role in managing of waste related issues, technology to enhance different steps in waste handling processes and so on plus the educational and pedagogical side of teaching younger generations about party surprising opportunities and possibilities that can lie in digitalization of waste management sector”
Anna Zaikova

Working at the Sustainability Science Department, LUT University, as a part of waste management research group. Education in Environmental Technology (LUT University) and Petroleum Engineering (Saint Petersburg Mining University, Russia)
Interest areas & research
Research focus on building a sustainable solid waste management in countries where landfilling is the main method for waste treatment. Life-cycle assessment, systematic analysis and other methods are used to study various aspects of waste managements. In AWARE project, Anna conducts an LCA study for the Leningrad region and Saint Petersburg and works on a social study about waste separation practices in the area.
Jouni Havukainen

Working for Sustainability Science department at the LUT University in conducting and managing research projects related to waste management development and participated in teaching related to the field since 2008.

“Experience from projects inc. ARVI-material value chain project (related to research exchange to ZJU). Project manager in a seven-year EU Life IP project Circwaste and Acedemy of Finland project NITRO – advanced nitrogen recovery.
Research interests: system analysis, waste management, life cycle assessment, biodegradable waste treatment, biogas production.”
Mika Horttanainen
DR. (TECH.), PROFESSOR
Bio
His team focuses on waste management systems analysis & finding environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for waste management, recycling and recovery. His team consists of an Ass. Prof., a post-doc researcher and 6 PhD students. He has published around 150 articles / reports.

Ivan Deviatkin
D.SC. (TECH.), POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
Bio
Ivan is a postdoctroal reseearcher at the Department of Sustainability Science at LUT University. He defended his doctoral dissertation assessing the importance of waste pretreatment in the overall sustainability of waste management.
Interest areas & research
Research on topics related to waste management including construction and demolition waste, ash from biomass or wood incineration, plastic waste, and electronic waste, among other waste flows. The main interest is in assessing the environmental impacts of waste management through recycling, incineration, or landfilling. Prior to AWARE, Ivan worked in ARVI project financed by CBC, where waste management of a paper company located in Leningrad Region was studied. Ivan will contribute to the LCA study in the project. Furthermore, Ivan is interested in educational part of the project.

Interest areas & research
Overall project coordination and implementation on behalf of FTU. Research interests focused on plant ecology, biogeography and nature conservation, as well as the consequences of environmental change (including pollution and waste) for biodiversity. A vast experience of project management and implementation, as a PI, consultant, and coordinator.
